On the Road...with Katherine Kellgren

By bbcaadmin @ 8:48 AM :: 351 Views :: 11 Comments :: Article Rating
Our Marketing Director Michele Cobb and Audie-Award-winning narrator Katherine Kellgren hit the highway for a road trip to the Behind the Microphone special event at Cranford Public Library in Central, New Jersey earlier this week. Library Director John Malar and Katherine smile  for the camera before the event. Despite relying on the dubious navigational skills of one of our friends from Hachette Book Group, Katherine and I made it out to lovely Cranford, New Jersey where we tasted local eats and then spoke to about 25 library patrons. To assist with her reading, Katherine carefully marked up this mansucript page with notes on pronunciation and emphasis. Katherine talked with the group about her backgroun...

The Lord of the Rings... in Concert?

By bbcaadmin @ 7:55 AM :: 744 Views :: 18 Comments :: Article Rating :: News
If you're a Tolkien fan, then you might just want to make a little pilgrimage to New York City the weekend of October 9-11. That's when Radio City Music Hall will be presenting The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring in Concert! A full orchestral performance of the score from the recent hit film, created by Howard Shore, will be perfectly synchronized to accompany a screening of the 178-minute movie. What more could a Ringer ask for? A special sound mix of the movie is created that allows for dialogue and light sound effects to be heard but that showcases the orchestra's performance, which is carefully timed using a special color-coded software that signals the conductor to passage changes and tempo fluctuations in the score. Maestro Ludvig ...

Former Doctor Tom Baker Returns for Who Audiobooks

By bbcaadmin @ 1:46 PM :: 472 Views :: 16 Comments :: Article Rating :: News
As reported (to much fan fair) by Wired.com, the fourth actor to play the lead in the cult hit TV show Doctor Who, Tom Baker, who portrayed the time-traveling hero from 1974 to 1981, is returning to the iconic role--on audio! Baker is in the studio recording a new five-program series for BBC Audiobooks (look for them to be offered in our catalogue this coming January as a complete set). The Doctor Who: Hornets’ Nest series was penned by Paul Magrs and also stars Richard Franklin, Susan Jameson, and Rula Lenska. Now 75 years old, Baker is the Doctor most Americans recognize and associate with the role, since his episodes were some of the first to be imported and aired here on PBS in the 1980s. Fans will surely welcome the return of this beloved acto...

Last Week, BBCAA's Managing Editor Vikki Warner let her freak flag fly with the cast and creators of The Mighty Boosh, on their US tour. After New York, they headed out West and tomorrow night they'll be signing at Amoeba Records in Los Angeles (see our calendar for more details). BBCAA basks in the Brilliance of the Boosh Last week, on a routine visit to our New York offices, I was stunned to find out that my favorite comedy duo, The Mighty Boosh, were in town to promote the DVD release of all three seasons of their zoo-tastic show—the strangest and funniest thing ever to cross my television screen. A signing? Great! A “secret” show, at which they would perform and DJ for their obsessive fans? Heavenly. Frantically collecting our audiobooks ...
